ADD Poster Girl Day today!

November 29th is
a VERY important day!
Okay, so it’s my birthday —
but it’s a good day to remind everyone that I don’t write these posts
from a lofty perch in some well-appointed ivory tower.

Happy Birthday to ME
The older I get, the more important it becomes to take time OFF to honor the reality that I have been granted another year on this earth.
So I am taking the rest of today t-totally OFF – and may well not return to respond to comments until Monday.
WOW! – an entire long weekend away
from my computer!HOWEVER, I would like to leave you with a little present (besides the links to Related Content I always give you at the bottom of my posts, and this December’s Awareness Calendar, already set to autopost on Friday).
Below you will be able to listen to and watch a TED Talk I found recently – the totally serious commentary from a relatively young Canadian mother, Guidance Counselor and education advocate who it RIGHT ON about everything she says.
For my Birthday
If anybody would like to give me a present, what I would like most in the whole world is that each of you would take the entire 15 minutes and 25 seconds it will take to listen ALL the way through — with an open mind — ESPECIALLY if you are a parent or an educator.
Pay CLOSE attention to her brief comments about
- medication
- misdiagnosis, and
- the dearth of physician education
(not just true in Canada, I promise you!)AND PASS IT ON!
Remember that you can always check out the sidebar
for a reminder of how links work on this site, they’re subtle ==>
HOVER before clicking – often a box will appear to tell you what to expect
ADHD: Approach with Science
Have a great weekend everybody!!!
I certainly plan to.

I just got to the email that told of this and your birthday. But obviously, we Sag’s need to celebrate at least a month just to get our just desserts for being born near Christmas. Happy BirthMonth!

I am SO with you on that one! When I lived in NYC (and bartenders were likely to give you a free drink on your birthday) I told people that every single day in November was my birthday! Except Thanksgiving, of course. Happy Birth Month to you too.

Now I feel downright awful! I missed your birthday 😦 Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Madelyn, Happy Birthday to you 🙂
Mine was the 5th but I didn’t announce it. Next time I’m gonna bring the party snacks.

Happy Birthday to YOU too, Tammy. And please don’t waste a heartbeat feeling bad about “missing” it.
I mostly announced it because I wanted to explain that I was taking the weekend off so nobody would wonder why I wouldn’t be responding to comments for a few days — which means I wouldn’t have seen your birthday wishes until the weekend was over anyway.
But I LOVE getting them today – and I hope you love getting mine four days late as well. ❤

Oh M. I’m so sorry. I’ve been going absolutely nuts throughout November with many glitches while in publishing mode. I am only now just catching up after launching my newest labor of love this past weekend. Go figure the one post I miss and it was your birthday 😦 So I am here now and wishing you a belated Happy Birthday girlfriend!!!! I hope it was fabulous. I hope you did something, ate something, or found something fabulous for your special day. ❤ ❤

My dear friend, do not EVER feel guilty for being too busy with your own life to pop over here! 🙂 Truth to tell, even *I* wasn’t popping in on that day (or most of the following weekend). So it is lovely to trip across your belated birthday wish “late” on Monday nite. Thank you. ❤
The fabulous thing I did was to spend practically the entire day in my jammies- napping, reading in bed, watching weepy Christmas movies to kick off the season — and staring at my Christmas tree! Sooooo relaxing I chose to keep it up all weekend! 🙂
Hope your November glitches have resolved — I’ll be over tomorrow to see what you’ve been up to while I’ve been fuffing around in my jammies. 🙂

Live it up? Oh no, my friend — thanks for the lovely thought, but my plans were to ramp it DOWN.
If I could have figured out how to feed myself and Tink and some way for both of us to go to the bathroom without getting out of bed, I wonder if we would have stirred at all for the entire long weekend. LOL.

Thank you so much, Clive. I spent much of the 29th sleeping late and snoozing off as I read, tucked under a down comforter on my couch – lol – VERY relaxing. I am taking the entire weekend off, but wanted to drop in for a moment to say thanks for all the wonderful birthday wishes. They warm my heart. ❤

As we know good health isn’t a given to some… bodily or mentally and that does make huge difference to so many lives…Chocolate is another board game and yes one which we should explore as the best chocolate has so many benefits…hehe ❤

Sadness in my awareness of the truth to that, Carol – yet good health is a WONDERFUL nudge that can lead to gratitude in action: stepping up when we can because we CAN (fueled by just a bit of chocolate, of course – LOL). ❤

Happy Birthday and best wishes for many more, in good health and sparkling spirit! You are not getting older; you are only getting wiser while getting younger at the same time!
I wish I were there to make you a chocolate cake (totally dietetic, I assure you!), but for want of that, I hope Tink is baking one for you.
Have a great looong Birthday Weekend!
All my love,
Dolly

Tink has been extremely generous with the puppy kisses since the 29th but, alas, he is much too small to reach the counter or the stove — or any of the ingredients on the pantry shelves. So no cake.
As long as we are both healthy, have a warm roof over our heads with working electrics, healthy food in our bellies, and a working computer with a decent internet connection we feel fortunate indeed. There are SO many who do not have those blessings – and we do not take them for granted – especially during the holiday season.

A great post/presentation Madelyn. I just forwarded your link to my son and his partner as they are currently trying to come to terms with the realities of ADHD. Great timing! Regards. Colin.

Thank you, Colin. I hope your son and his partner will allow themselves to ignore ALL of the ignorant comments they will find around the ‘net as they explore the FACTS that will allow them to work with and around Challenges that *most* people don’t think about (or believe exist) until they are facing cognitive and Executive Functioning struggles themselves.
Interesting to me how many Boomers are now writing books and articles about “overcoming” late-life struggles they pooh-poohed for years as “simply” a matter of some bizarre form of lack of will power.

Thanks, Colin – the speaker pulls no punches. It is my birthday wish that SHE, perhaps, might get through to the world where I seem to have failed to do so (for reasons I guess I will not understand until I am dead and “looking down”).
Step ONE is awareness – so I will be quite pleased if people a least LISTEN to what she has to say.

Happy, Happy to you Madelyn ! A fellow Sagittarius lady. Some of the best people I know were born at this time of year. My mother shares your day on the 29th…I miss her dearly.

Thank you, Van. I’m still technically “off” for the long weekend and will be until Monday the 4th here, but am checking back every once in a while to say thank you for all the wonderfully warm wishes left for me – like YOURS!
We Sag’s are Seekers of the highest order, according to the astro-sages – so I’ll bet your mother was a fascinating conversationalist, well-versed in many interests. Since you were both born under this sun sign, I’m guessing you two had quite a few adventures together. I’m sure, had I been lucky enough to have known her, I would miss her dearly as well.
AS for “taking time to celebrate” – I am SO enjoying relaxing during my long (and rare) weekend break that getting dressed to get out the door seems more like work than fun – LOL

Thank you so much. And NOW we play catch-up – LOL.
Life is a like a perpetual treadmill, or so it has always seemed to me. Even when we enjoy the walk, sometimes we simply need to hop off to gain some perspective. Most of us probably need to do it more often than we do – true for me, anyway.
My birthday is one of the times I jump off each year. I highly recommend the practice.
