Friday Fun: Happy Thanksgiving!

Things that inspire GRATITUDE

Quick Intro before we get to the Funnies

Let me begin by wishing a sincere (though belated) Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends who celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday of every October – no doubt because the harvest comes earlier “up there.”

I hope it was joyful —
and that you can all finally button your pants again.

Last year’s American Thanksgiving post started out sincerely and crept into funnies.  Although most of us somehow made it through the year since last November’s election here in the used-to-be-good ole’ USA, I think we need a lot more humor to lift our spirits as we limp toward the New Year holding our collective breath.

So even if you’re rushing around hoping to be able to celebrate Turkey-lurkey Day with a modicum of calm this coming Thursday, here’s a bit of humor to help you keep some perspective.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Are you hosting the upcoming feast, taking assorted dishes prepared in your own kitchen to somebody else’s table, or not cooking at all this year because you have been invited elsewhere or plan to dine on restaurant cousine?

Is anybody currently dieting in preparation for Thursday’s pig-out, or have we all already given up and given in to the 10 pound holiday creep?

Whatever! Let’s get the weekend started with a few chuckles.

Take a look at a few time-related funnies that I tripped across on Pinterest.

How many of the situations below make YOU nod your head?

YOU PLAY TOO

If you have something on your website or blog that relates to the theme, especially if it’s humorous, please feel free to leave a link in a comment.

Keep it to one link per comment or you’ll be auto-spammed, but multiple comments are just fine and most welcome.

AND NOW for some more humor TODAY . . .

Don’t forget that you can always check out the sidebar
for a reminder of how links work on this site, they’re subtle ==>

This Friday’s theme:
Happy TurkeyLurky Day

  What Thanksgiving means
to so many of us . . .

But seriously though . . .

A bit about the birds . . .

Really?

And the next day . . .

Perspective: NO explanation needed

Th-th-th-at’s all folks!
SEE YOU NEXT TIME

Funnies post only occasionally

Reminding you of what I disclosed in the introduction to this series, Funnies about Perspective: unlike the ongoing Sunday Smiles and Monday Funnies you’ll find on Chris The Story Reading Ape’s Blog, my Friday Funnies will show up only occasionally, usually clustered around a theme.

If things seem to have gotten a tad serious in the world – or on ADDandSoMuchMORE.com – get ready for another hit of humor, most likely another Friday Funny.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Madelyn. I wasn’t sure but I think that turkey chilling in the sink with a beer just said “cheers” to me haha 😉 These funnies are great!

  9. Ha! I have no idea where you find all these memes but I love ’em. Fortunately, I need only visit here for my fix.

In the meantime… I’m going to follow the example of the turkey meme above and chill in the “sink” for a few hours 😉

Happy Thanksgiving, Madelyn. I wish you a joyful celebration.
Thank you for the funnies. Although we don’t have Thanksgiving over here, the humour translates well.
    Enjoy! xx

    • Thanks, Norah. Family tables are funny things in many countries – and most have holidays that include eating in a gathering. A RICH source of funnies!

When we were kids we used to get together to play. Now we are adults we get together to eat! I prefer the gatherings where humour prevails. A lot! 🙂

        • Very funny – and mostly true. Maybe we need to spend more time in comedy clubs and less in restaurants – lol. Food for thought?!

Hmm. Interesting thought, and worth considering; or play board games more. They encourage discussion as well as fun and laughter so help to develop relationships. There’s really only one doing the talking in a comedy club – it might stimulate discussion later. Perhaps a little bit of each.

            • I was mostly joking – but I love playing games (especially word games – and charades, of course!) LOT’s of laughs there.

One of my favourites is Balderdash. Have you played it? Players make up “plausible” definitions for “obscure” words, then vote on which they think is correct. Sometimes we can’t read the definitions for laughing, and sometimes the real definition is funnier than any made up.
Another good one I’ve played on the internet recently is Drawful. It’s a bit like Balderdash but you have to draw pictures to illustrate words or phrases (so maybe a bit more like Pictionary). It is hilarious! Particularly for those of us who can’t draw. But it doesn’t matter. It’s fun anyway. 🙂
I’ve never had much of ago at charades.

            • Years ago my friend Robin and I played a “made up” game that sounds like Balderdash, but it wasn’t called that, nor was it bought at a store (like people have played Charades for years without paying a cent). I’ve played Pictionary with my friend Cindi and her friends and family, but don’t know Drawful.

HOWEVER, my theatre friends and I seem to have always gravitated toward Charades. Funny, but my friends in other communities haven’t been too crazy about it (and don’t seem to be too great at it either), yet my friends who are actors/directors/stage techies ALL seem to have loved it — and those games were truly a hoot! Different types of creativity, I guess — and certainly more willingness to simply “play.”

We obviously share a love of games too, Madelyn. I can understand that those used to telling stories through acting would enjoy and be good at charades. Whatever the game, playing is always a great way of learning social skills and building relationships.

            • Yes, it does make sense. Most of my non-actor buddies who are game players have kids, so they got hooked on games that way.

I agree with your last statement totally, “Whatever the game, playing is always a great way of learning social skills and building relationships.” In fact, it’s a super way to integrate some of the the shyer members of the family (tho’ probably not Charades, lol).

I used games a lot in the classroom. There’s nothing better than learning with others and having fun at the same time. 🙂

            • I’m probably weird – certainly in the minority: I have the most fun whenever I am interested and learning – and frequently lack interest totally for activities where learning is not a component.

Because I also love potatoes. I wrote a couple of funny posts about Thanksgiving – this one is my favorite. https://www.shallowreflections.com/11-talking-points-for-thanksgiving-dinner-2/

Loved this M, – both the serious and the humor. Millions of books can be written on the past year alone with what’s been going on. As a friend of mine said, ” At least 10 volumes will be written in the history books for year one alone. On a brighter note: The Black Friday memes were hilarious, especially the first one. And Uncle Mueller should have some lovely Christmas gifts. ❤ xx

Time to wind down for the week and no better way than with some exceptional humour from Madelyn Griffith-Haynie. It’s all about the upcoming holidays. Thanksgiving is not a holiday we celebrate as such in the UK but we have our own ways of celebrating life, family and love. These are very funny. #recommended

    • Thanks, Robbie. I like the idea of making SURE we set aside at least one meal a year to focus on what we are grateful for — and to remember that we are all one under the skin.

It seems especially important here in American, given a lot of nonsense tweeted about immigration and walls during the last year – but I decided to do it with humor rather than ranting about it. 🙂
