The theme of this year’s ADDvocacy efforts is “The Many Faces of ADHD.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As Canadian ADD Coach and ADDvocate Pete Quilly reminds everyone:
and if THATdoesn’t break your heart,
  • There are many problems with ADD/ADHD but also many advantages of ADD/ADHD if properly managed (which REQUIRES understanding it properly, IMHO.)
THAT’s why raising awareness of ADD/ADHD is so important!!!
calendar-2013-octoberADD Awareness MONTH?!
In 2013, the “official” (and long-standing)
ADD-ADHD Awareness Week is
Sunday, October 13th thru Saturday, October 19th.
Canadian ADHD Awareness Week is October 14th to 20th 2013.
  • But when have ADDers ever limited themselves to
    “inside the box” actions and activities?
  • We’re taking the whole MONTH!
Remember – links on this site are dark grey to reduce distraction potential
while you’re reading. They turn red on mouseover.
ADDvocates are gearing up
As the month of October draws closer, you will see more and more about special activities available — some for free and some for a fee — ALL designed and promoted to increase ADD Awareness and deliver accurate, up-to-date ADD information World-Wide.
I’ll let you know about as many of the free ones as I have time to investigate and post right here on the bottom of THIS article – so bookmark this post and check back throughout the month.
If YOU are sponsoring a free event, let me know in the comments section so I can help you get the word out (keep it to one link per comment so you don’t get auto-spammed, btw)
CADDAC, The Center for ADHD Awareness will be soon be putting out more info about their activities for ADHD Awareness Week.
AND SO WILL I!
What Can YOU Do?
Here are some ideas from adhdawarenessmonth.org:
  • Hold a webinar or teleclass
  • Present at a local community meeting such as a Rotary Club, Parent Teacher Organization, Mental Health Support group, or Faith-based group.
  • Contact organizations in your community to recognize and hold ADHD Awareness Week activities.
  • Write to legislators to inform them of the week and ask for their participation in your events.
  • Contact a State Legislator to have your State declare ADHD Awareness week. (Google: ”yourstatename legislature”).
  • Print the poster available HERE and post it throughout your community.
  • Arrange for a local library or community center display on ADHD.
  • Print up fact sheets about ADHD and leave copies with libraries, pharmacies, and your local media (newspapers, and radio and TV stations).
The EASIEST way to help is to
  • SHARE ADD sites and ADD awareness articles (this one and others) with your friends on LinkedIn, FaceBook, Twitter – and all of the OTHER places you have an online presence.
  • Reblog, tweet and retweet, link YOUR articles to others around the web – do whatever YOU can to help ADD Awareness go VIRAL!
Keep it UP
Don’t limit your actions to the month of October. Keep spreading the word, liking, linking, and holding activities throughout the the rest of the year (and the rest of your LIFE!)
The [quality of] life you save will definitely be SOMEBODY’s loved one!
“It takes a village to transform a world!”
  1. This is a big one Madelyn, as you well know. No better time than October to face the Realities, the real Challenges with ADHD recovery and self management. For those who are interested in Reality this video program is a starter on why we all need to work as a village to spread the word:
    I presented this for colleagues in Chicago 11-9, and we had participants on from the UK. Love that Adobe Connect! http://corebrain.adobeconnect.com/p6hzptlfwi9/
    • Thanks cp — you know I love YOUR material over “there!”
      SO glad to have some videos to recommend, too.
      I’ve got 10 weeks of catch-up to handle, and prep for whatever I do for ADD Awareness — but I’ll be re-joining you on your initiatives SOON.
      THanks again for keeping some live activity going here while all was on auto-post while I was away.
      xx,
